The heart of Aul' New Cumnock is the sweet Afton Water: the river; its banks, its paths and its bridges. It needs attention in order for it to be a place people want to visit, sit and walk beside it. Litter free with well maintained paths from the Nith all the way to its source beyond the Afton reservoir.

How do we get there? (Public transport, car parking, etc)

We usually meet at Afton Bridge, New Cumnock situated on the (A76) Kilmarnock to Dumfries road.
By train:
The Afton joins the Nith about 500 yards from the railway station but better to leave the station, cross the Nith Bridge and follow the (A76) main road south until you come to Afton Bridgend, upstream.
By bus:
From north or south, cross the Afton Bridge and get up for the bus stop nearby.
By car:
The Afton Bridge has its own signs, so you shouldn't miss it.

Who will this benefit?

The community and, as a Gateway to Ayrshire, the county. Afton is a visitor attraction but at the moment a bit of a disappointment to visitors.
Lovers of Robert Burns. Walkers who enjoy a wee stroll and ramblers who can follow the Afton and join the Southern Upland Way a few miles south of the reservoir.

What should we bring, or wear?

Sturdy shoes, or wellingtons if you want to go into the river, work gloves, litter pickers if you have them, drinking water.
